That Don’t Bother Me

My mother left but that don’t bother me
She walked beneath the moon late in June
Laid a wreath that perished soon
My mother left but that don’t bother me

My father went to see what he could see
He sailed a ship from the ports in Spain
Down to the tip of Memory Lane
Yeah my father went but that don’t bother me

My sister hailed a cab and disappeared
Into the night a passing light
A question might explain the flight
But my sister dissapeared and that don’t bother me

My brother never was but that don’t bother me
A possibility that never came to pass
The others went and he was saved for last
My brother never was but that don’t bother me.

My house burned down
I’ve lost my job
I’ve never found love
I’ve never had a friend
And people are just so damned cruel
But that don’t bother me

They’ll find me hung from on this tree
From a wall, a cross, wherever I happen to be.
With a smile on my face because, of course…
Nothing bother’s me.

A Poor Sonnet

Why should I judge others that don’t agree?
Nothing written truly gives me this right.
Though our eyes refuse even to meet.
This doesn’t mean we are lacking insight.

Reason is lost in arguments grown hot.
Logic cast aside as the tempers flare.
Cool, calm, and collected cannot be bought.
The love and joy of humankind stripped bare.

But know this in time can be overcome.
Logic recalled and tempers be restored.
Love and joy can thrive and recieve welcome.
Judgements cast aside prejudice ignored.

Perhaps it is hopeless optimism.
I believe peace a reachable vision.

My heart beats softly
The sun shines down on the rose
The wind cools my soul

A swift flash of green
Followed by a baffled croak
I’ve disturbed his sleep

Ghosts rise from the ground
Enveloping me fully
Beneath the cold light

Natural laughter
A reflection to my ears
Something silver leaps wildly

A gentle mist falls
The clouds part allowing sun
Color fills the sky

Chirping fills my ears
I lay my head near the pond
Night cools me just so

A Solitary Tear

Divide the dividends
And abscond with your crooked friends
To the island of Moreau

A beastly intrusion
I’ve shattered the illusion of
Your beauty, I fear

I’ve shed but one solitary tear
There was a time I held you dear
But I’ve let all that go

False laughter and promises
Promiscuity and dominance
Enough! Return from whence you came.

My Family

Kind and beautiful, you’ve captured my heart.
Although at times you try my patience, I couldn’t live apart.
Truly I do love your carefree easy way.
Imprinted on my memory, your smiles and laughs each day.
Endearment evermore, my love will only grow; look forward to these feelings when you have children of your own.

Comical is something that comes to mind when I think of you.
How you bring a smile to my face with nearly everything you do.
Running and playing with your sister, or “arguing” with our cat.
It’s amazing to me I had a part of where you’re at.
Simple joy and merriment you bring into my life.                       Trisha my sweet lady, I’m so glad you are my wife.

I look at these two children and step back for some perspective.
Although my life isn’t perfect you three shine through when I’m feeling introspective.
Now son, you’ll grow and change throughout the years, just know I’ll always be here to dry up any tears.

Trisha, my love, my one and only in this dream called life.
Realizing early on your tender ways, I hoped you’d be my wife.
I do, you said when I asked that you stay forever near.
Such a sound that passed your lips, beauty on my ear.
Hearts as one, holding on, to our sweet and joyful start.
Always we are one, nevermore to part.

A limerick is a humorous poem consisting of five lines. The first, second, and fifth lines must have seven to ten syllables while rhyming and having the same verbal rhythm. The third and fourth lines only have to have five to seven syllables, and have to rhyme with each other and have the same rhythm.

A Trumpence

Don and Mike were seeking a trumpence
For a scheme they both had come up with
Their plans were laid down
Both looked like real clowns
And instead recieved a comeuppance

To live a life eternal
Is to hold a dream infernal
For into the ground
You are surely bound
Your dreams flushed just like a urinal

Life made of love and laughter
Can read like the greatest chapter
Of your favorite of books
With an intricate hook
Though no sequel is guaranteed after

Be still my beating heart
Was writ in a great piece of art
Thank goodness not literal
For it would be pitiful
If the heart would fail to restart

My words I swear are true
Except the above stated view
But now I will tell
My story so well
It will leave you lost and confused

I decided to write limericks
Only to find no one gave a shit
I’m wasting my time
But I really don’t mind
They are solely for my own benefit

I felt the waves crashing down
For a moment I felt I may drown
A quite absurd notion
Never been near an ocean
And I prefer my feet on dry ground
(Not part of the limerick but what a weird fucking dream.)

Surely perfect in every way
I’m the best each and every day
You know this is true
There’s naught I can’t do
Except finish this limerick using the proper, widely accepted format.

Tom Waits

Tom Waits is a man of great talent
Posing verse and lyrics quite valiant
Though I said he’s a man
You should understand
I’d check God if handed a ballot

Many styles of shoe you might find
Cantabrian albarcas like mine
That’s not really true
Though in Spain they will do
Clearly I Googled shoes for this rhyme

Pop Music

Did you hear the latest sensation
Spreading like fire through the nation
This hook heavy band
Has taken the land
True artists are left with frustration

Last night I saw a ghost, it’s true
And I thought “What should I do?”
So I began to rewind
The film, oh quite fine
Though it’s antagonist I can see through

A Baker’s Dozen

My play on this format is through
Enjoyable to write one or two
But a firm baker’s dozen
Has left me with nothin’
But looking for new things to do

That was weird.

The ticking clock proceeds heedless of today’s worries. The road less traveled, the road most tread, either path will do. No difference to be made; when it comes to time all are equal.

The crashing waves erode the sandy shore, the rocky shore, your sense of surety. One direction, one way ticket, no turning back, the rearview is broken, the rewind button is missing, the past has passed, is past, is passé. Tick… tick… tick… No tricks. No treats.

Inevitable, inescapable, inexorable. Ineluctable. Learn from the past but don’t forget to move on. Time… Time doesn’t remember but it never forgets. No sick days, vacation days, personal days. No paid leave and no leaving for pay. Time doesn’t care. Time isn’t given the choice or the chance. It isn’t cruel; it simply is.

Live, love, laugh, and learn. We only get one shot.
